Alternator Regulator, Sensors and Side Pipes:
I am going to stop apolgizing for late blog entries. I guess I am just lazy or don't have enough time. This update actually covers about the last 3 weeks which not a lot has been competed actually. It is so darn cold in the garage that I tend to only last an hour or two before losing feeling in my important parts.
Let's first start with the alternator regulator. Didn't know I needed this but had to rewire the alternator. Basically this is an external regulator that I installed on one of the dash frames. I ran these wires out into through the firewall and up to the block, under the spark plug wires and to the alternator. I them loomed them up to keep them nice and tidy. I also ran the wire for the distributor as well. Once this was completed it was time for running the gauge sensors.
I had to order some parts to complete this step. I went with a steel braided oil pressure line from Jeg's for this application. The first kit I bought was a plastic tube. Something about plastic tubes, hot oil and hot headers don't mix. I just don't want a fire under the hood. I also ran the speed-o cable, and water temp sensor to the block. I bound all my wires (alternator, distributor and water temp) into a neat harnes on the right side of the engine. I am having a heck of a time, however with the oil temp sensor. My Canton oil pan plug is stuck. I need to put a sensor here and it will not budge. I have tried heat, cold, penetrating oils, etc. I am going to have to reach out to Southern Automotive to see if they can help me.
Also on the build, I had my friends Russ and Dan come to visit. Dan is back from Afganistan where he timed his life through meals in the day. Everything was judged by when the next meal woudl be. Anyway, we were all working on putting the side pipes on the car. We tried everything but couldn't get them on. We were defeated. After a week or so of feeling down, I decided to clean out the inside of the pipes to remove any excess coating that I had applied. I am happy to say that I have both driver and passenger side pipes mounted.
So what's next? I still need to bleed my brakes, put in the radiator, wire up some switches and plumb up the oil cooler.....then it is time to start the car for the first time. Boy, does that make me nervous! Pictures below. Click image for a larger view.
