BUILDING THE BODY BUCK:
Yesterday I started building a body buck for the cobra. What is a body buck? This is the support I will use to put the fiberglass body on while I build out the chassis. For most race cars of this era, the body merely lies on a frame with a a tubular layout of the body. This allowed for much ligher cars. The cobra was no different in this respect. The main difference in bodies is that the original was aluminum and this is fiberglass.
I started crafting the buck yesterday. I am making it so that the rolling chassis can be stored underneath when I am not working on it. When I need to work on it, I can now roll the body out into the driveway.

You know that old saying "Measure twice, cut once?" Well for me, it should be "Measure twice, move the saw horse, then cut." My new saw horse now has some "wounds" because I didn't check to see where they were in relation to my cutting path as I created the radius for the top of the buck. I memorialized this tragedy as seen in this picture.

Eva and I pulled the buck out into the driveway and flipped it over onto it's wheels so I could put it into the space reserved for the cobra build in my garage. I put locking casters on it so it wouldn't try to make a get away.

As the last step, I put copper pipe insulation on the tops of the buck. This way, the body will be able to sit on it without worry of damage.
On a final note, I would like to say that this would have been a lot easier if I had my buddies Adam and Russ to help. Since moving to New Jersey this last December, I haven't made a ton of friends that have the time to help with this crazy endeavor. Hopefully I can coerce my neigbor with promises of beer and pizza. The other neigbors all have infants which seem to monopolize their time. Welcome to the "burbs."

Thanks for sharing mate! I'm stoked that you are in the midst of realizing one of your many dreams!

I'd love to come out and cuddle the 428 before it gets its privates tied up (will you share)?

Maybe I can lend a hand (PBR in the other) in the near future.

Adam (aka Anthony)
